Heavy Duty Wrecker Operator
Vernell’s Interstate Service in Marion, Illinois is hiring for a Heavy Duty Wrecker Operator.
Vernell’s Interstate Service has provided the best in towing, recovery and repair services for more than 60 years. Our 14-bay facility includes a towing service, heavy-duty repair shop, 24/7 express repair and fully stocked tire and parts departments.
Applicants for Heavy Duty Wrecker Operator must:
- Possess an Illinois Class A CDL
• Have experience driving a manual transmission
• Have general automotive repair skills including, but not limited to, lights, tires, and brakes
• Be familiar with commercial vehicles
• Maintain CDL certification to operate company-owned equipment used in towing, recovery and repair operations
• Maintain a clean work area and keep vehicles, inventory, tools and equipment in good condition
• Complete all reports in a timely manner
Specialized towing and recovery training is provided, but knowledge of the recovery process is preferred.
This is a full-time position with on call nights and weekends.
Applicants must also have a clean driving record, be able to lift up to 100 pounds, and pass a pre-employment drug screen. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Service Technician
Vernell’s Interstate Service in Marion, Illinois is hiring for a Service Technician.
Vernell’s Interstate Service has provided the best in towing, recovery and repair services for more than 60 years. Our 14-bay facility includes a towing service, heavy-duty repair shop, 24/7 express repair and fully-stocked tire and parts departments.
Responsibilities of the Service Technician include:
- Performing service repairs, maintenance and diagnostics on customer and/or company-owned vehicles and equipment
• Performing emergency roadside assistance
• Performing tire repairs or replacements
• Performing Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections and completing all necessary paperwork
• Maintaining CDL certification to operate company-owned equipment used in towing, recovery and repair operations
• Maintaining a clean work area and keeping vehicles, inventory, tools and equipment in good condition
• Completing all reports in a timely manner
This is a full-time position. Shifts are 12 hours, four days a week. The pay rate is $16-$30 per hour, depending upon experience.
Applicants must have their CDL certification or obtain their CDL certification within six months of employment.
Applicants must also have a clean driving record, be able to lift up to 100 pounds, and pass a pre-employment drug screen. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Service Writer
Vernell’s Interstate Service in Marion, Illinois is hiring for a Service Writer.
Vernell’s Interstate Service has provided the best in towing, recovery and repair services for more than 60 years. Our 14-bay facility includes a towing service, heavy-duty repair shop, 24/7 express repair and fully stocked tire and parts departments.
Responsibilities of the Service Writer include:
- Greeting customers, answering questions and assisting them with their vehicles, and writing service tickets as necessary
- Meeting customer needs in a timely and efficient manner
- Assigning work orders, dispatching service and towing calls to the proper skilled technicians to ensure the highest quality work is obtained
- Properly completing work orders
- Receiving payment and posting the payment properly to the corresponding work order
- Getting parts for service technicians for more efficient time spent on jobs
- Data entry
- Managing technicians
- Keeping work area neat and tidy
- Keeping the shop clean and supplied with all necessary equipment
This is a full-time position. Shifts are 12 hours, four days a week. The pay rate is $16-$20 per hour, depending upon experience.

Qualified candidates will have some mechanical knowledge, a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, data entry experience and excellent communication skills.
